Resumen
 Este escrito repasa la trayectoria pública de The House on Mango Street y su papel en el contexto de la evolución/involución de los programas de estudios mexicanoamericanos en Estados Unidos. Se explora la tensión entre la popularidad de este texto de Sandra Cisneros y su censuramiento en diversos centros educativos: aunque es lectura obligatoria en muchas escuelas y universidades, se lo considera controvertido como literatura escolar y ha sido prohibido en varias ocasiones por su “delicado contenido.”

Abstract.
This essay reviews the public trajectory of The House on Mango Street and its role in the context of the evolution/involution of Mexican American studies programs in the United States. It explores the tension between the popularity of this text by Sandra Cisneros and its censorship in various educational centers: although it is required reading in many schools and universities, it is considered controversial as school literature and has been banned on several occasions due to its “delicate content.”
